What The BBA Is all About

Our goal is to provide a fun atmosphere for our K - 6th graders to learn about and grow in the game of basketball. At practices, kids will learn basic fundamentals as well as advanced skills to help them become a better basketball player.

We believe a lot about life can be learned from sports. We strive to provide an atmosphere for the kids to develop in life skills such as working as a team, good sportsmanship, having a good attitude, and showing integrity.

Objectives By Grade Level

Kindergarten - 2nd Grade

We will introduce the fundamentals of the game of basketball. While players may get opportunities to scrimmage against each other, they will mostly learn sound basketball techniques. They will begin to learn how to properly:

  • Pass
  • Shoot
  • Dribble
  • Jump Stop
  • Shoot a layup
  • Triple-threat
  • Play Defense

3rd and 4th Grade

We revisit all of the fundamentals from 1st and 2nd grade. As we move through the year, these basics should become more and more sharp. Teams will have more opportunities to play against other teams outside of Brookings. Other things your player will learn or touch on more in 3rd and 4th grade:

  • Basic Cutting
  • Basic Screening
  • Rebounding
  • Game/Scrimmage Preparation

5th And 6th Grade

At this level, we continue to work on fundamentals and also more skill development. These are the last two years of BBA for them. We work on everything in the other levels and spend a little more time on things like:

  • Post moves
  • Pick and Roll
  • Floor spacing
  • Game situations
  • Footwork
