K-2^nd Grade Team Policies

Kindergarten

Focus: The focus of kindergarten basketball is on learning the proper techniques of basketball (dribbling, passing, shooting) and having fun! There is no emphasis on games. During each session, the basics of basketball will be taught and explained. Each player will play in their respective grade level.

Registration: Opens approximately September 15^th of each year.

Coaching: The Brookings Basketball Association (BBA) is a parent run organization and requires that parents volunteer to coach their respective teams. Please consider volunteering your time and talents to coach. Coaches are required to do a background check prior to coaching. Each coach is expected to develop their teams, adhere to the objectives and philosophies of the BBA and Brookings High School coaches.

Practices: Four sessions on Sunday afternoons in January for 45 minutes

Uniforms: No uniform is required. Please wear clean shoes to practice in the gymnasium.

Hoop Height: 8 ft.

Ball Size: Each kindergarten player receives a free basketball with registration (Size 27.5)

 

1^st Grade

Focus: The focus of 1^st grade basketball is to teach basketball skills including passing, defense, dribbling, shooting, basic techniques, and coordination, and build upon the basics learned in the kindergarten program. Each player will play in their respective grade level.

Registration: Opens approximately September 15^th of each year.

Season Length: Saturday practices from early December through mid-February

Games: There is no emphasis on games, but the last practice concludes with a 3 on 3 scrimmage/tournament.

Uniform: Each player will receive a t-shirt with their name and a number. Numbers are chosen randomly. Please wear clean shoes in the gymnasium.

Hoop Height: 8 ft.

Ball Size: Size 27.5 or 28.5.

 

2^nd Grade

Focus: The focus of 2^nd grade basketball is to teach basketball skills including passing, defense, dribbling, shooting, basic techniques, and coordination, and build upon the basics learned in the BBA program. Each player will play in their respective grade level.

Games: Two to three 5 on 5 scrimmages are held throughout the year. One in December, January, and February.
